Why NIFTY is hard to learn with real money
A NIFTY option contract trades in lots, so the smallest position you can take is already meaningful capital. Premiums decay every day the index does not move, and a quiet week can take an at-the-money option to a fraction of what you paid without the index ever going against you.
Those two facts mean a beginner can be directionally right and still lose. Learning that on a simulator costs a week of screen time. Learning it live costs the account.
What you can practise on NIFTY
Weekly and monthly expiries
Switch expiry and watch how the same strike is priced differently. Weeklies decay faster and react harder; monthlies give a position room to be wrong for a while.
Strike selection
Compare in-the-money, at-the-money and out-of-the-money calls and puts side by side on the live chain, then see which one actually paid for the move you predicted.
Buying versus writing
Buy an option and feel decay work against you. Write one and feel it work for you, with the higher margin a short position blocks.
Spreads
Build a two-leg spread, tag both legs under one strategy, and review the combined result in Analysis rather than leg by leg.
A practice routine that actually teaches
Pick one expiry and trade only that for a fortnight. Before each entry, write the level you are wrong at and the premium you will exit at. Attach the stop-loss and the target to the order so the platform enforces both while you are away from the screen.
At the end of the fortnight open Analysis and split the losing trades into two piles: followed the plan, and abandoned the plan. Only the second pile is a mistake worth fixing. Most traders find that pile is larger than they expected.
Frequently asked questions
Are NIFTY premiums on Trade Monky live?
Yes. The option chain carries live premiums from a market data feed, so a paper order is marked against the price the market is actually showing.
What is the NIFTY lot size here?
Lot sizes follow current NSE contract specifications, so a paper position sizes the same way a live one would.
Can I practise weekly expiry trading?
Yes. All listed expiries carried in the feed are selectable, weekly and monthly.
Does NIFTY paper trading cost anything?
No. Virtual funds, the option chain and trade analysis are free.
